Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, living on campus means there’s always something to do. Residence life staff create safe and engaging opportunities to get to know the City of Kelowna and the UBC Okanagan campus. Living in residence provides the opportunity to make new friends, virtually and in person. The academic residence community provides opportunities to learn outside the classroom and helps students build valuable skills for the future.

Residence Life staff are among the best-connected people at the university. They’re committed to enhancing the student experience for all residents. Residence Advisors spend countless hours organizing orientation programs, volunteer opportunities, and fun events like recreational sports, movies, and field trips. They also lend an ear when needed and help address community issues. Residence Life staff recruitment takes place each winter.

Residence Life Managers are professional staff who also live in residence. They help supervise staff, manage student behaviour, and have extensive knowledge of campus resources. RLMs are responsible for ensuring each resident has the opportunity to enjoy a positive living experience.

“Living in residence is a tremendous opportunity to be part of a vibrant learning community. The people you meet in residence will be a defining part of your student experience. We encourage you to get involved and to take advantage of the programs and resources available to support your personal and professional development.”— Steve Brodrick, Associate Director, Residence Life

“Hi, I’m Bailey Kew, Residence Life Manager at Kalamalka, Nicola, Purcell, and Skeena. During my undergraduate degree at Carleton University, I knew that I wanted to be actively involved in the community. My goal was to create lifelong friendships, develop new skills, and make the most of my academic experience. Being involved in residence gave me a strong network of people to connect with, helped me explore my values, and ultimately gave me the space to develop a passion for helping people, which has brought me to this role. My office is located in the Student Housing and Hospitality Services Main Office in Nicola Residence. I am always happy to answer any questions you may have about getting involved in residence or at UBCO!”

Enjoy your time in our residence community, and see if there’s anything you’d like to get involved with while you’re here. The best way to enhance your university career is by finding something you’re passionate about on campus and taking part in a club, group, or on-campus job. My office is in the Nicola Housing Office, feel free to stop by if you need anything. If you see me around campus, please say hi!”
