UBCO’s Commuter Students’ Hostel offers non-residence students affordable overnight accommodation during the Winter Session to support academic success and involvement in campus co-curricular activities.

Commuter Student Hostel rooms, located in Nicola Residence, are available Sunday to Thursday until the end of April (except during the winter holiday break and stat holidays). During exam periods, hostel rooms are available seven days a week!

How to make a reservation

  • Rooms are available for non-residence students currently enrolled at UBC.
  • Bookings must be made online (we are unable to make reservations by phone or in-person).
  • Same-day bookings can be made up until 7 pm.
  • Maximum stay of two nights in a seven-day period.
  • Reservations are not available for Sunday evenings that precede a holiday Monday, except during exam periods.

About the Space

Private Room

per night (plus taxes)
  • Located on the ground floor of Nicola Residence
  • 11 private bedrooms each with a twin bed with bedding, desk and chair, bike hook, towels
  • Communal bathroom space
  • Private shower stalls (which come with shower toiletries)
  • Shared living space and kitchenette, table and chairs, fridge and microwave
    • Food must be labelled and will be removed every day at 11 am
    • Cutlery and other necessities available for purchase Orchard Convenience Store

Payment

  • Reserve your room online here
  • Pay for your stay at check-in (Nechako Front Desk) with a credit card or debit card – no cash or cheque

Checking In

  • Time: Check-in after 4 pm
  • Location: Check in at the Nechako Front Desk, which is open 24/7 (with the exception of 7:30-8 pm, and 3-4 am.

Parking

  • Limited overnight parking available for an additional $3 per night plus tax
  • Overnight parking in G Lot only.
  • Permits are available through the Honk app. Parking can be paid by credit card or paypal only.
  • Parking permits valid until 11 am

Checking Out

  • Time: Checkout is at 11 am.
  • Remove all of your belongings, throw away garbage, remove food from the kitchen.
  • Leave the space in good condition
  • Keys must be returned to the Front Desk by 11 am, or there will be a $25 charge

Conduct and safety

Guests must adhere to the following standards of conduct:

  • Single room, single occupancy. Guests are not permitted.
  • No alcohol or smoking
  • Adhere to quiet hours
  • Respect for others

Cancellations

  • Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours prior to your reservation, you will be charged for one night’s stay.

Who can book a room

I'm not a current student, can I book a room?
The Commuter Student Hostel is a space dedicated for currently enrolled UBC students who do not already live in residence.
I'm a student in residence, can I book a room?
The Commuter Student Hostel is available to students who do not currently live on campus.
I'm staff or faculty, can I book a room?
The Commuter Student Hostel is a space dedicated for currently enrolled UBC students and not available to staff or faculty.

Before booking

Can I stay more than two nights in a row?
The Commuter Student Hostel is for temporary overnight accommodation for short term need. The maximum number of nights a student can stay is 2 in a 7-day period.
How many nights can I stay in one week?
There is a maximum stay of two nights in a seven-day period
Can I bring a pet?
Pets are not permitted in the Commuter Student Hostel. Only guide and service animals with certification are permitted to stay.
Can I have a friend stay with me?
The hostel is single occupancy only, guests are not permitted.

What’s in the space

Do I need to bring bedding?
Each private Student Commuter Hostel room is equipped with linens, pillow (1) and a set of towels for your stay. Should you want anything additional, please bring it with you.
Where can I get toiletries and other overnight necessities?
Orchard Market is open 7 days a week for any necessities you may need.
Where's the closest water station?
A water filtration station is located in Nechako Commonsblock second floor.
Can I prepare a meal in the space?
The Student Commuter Hostel does not have any cooking facilities available to guests.

Other Services & Amenities

I already have a parking permit. Do I have to pay for parking?
Student permit holders are not permitted to park overnight in any lot. Hostel guests must sign up for parking at the Nechako Front Desk at check in for the one or 2 nights they are staying.
Will I have access to laundry services?
The Commuter Student Hostel does not have laundry facilities.
Where can I eat on campus?
Students can eat on campus at any Food Services location. Hours and locations can be found here
If I need meals delivered, what's the address?
1290 International Mews, Kelowna, BC. V1V 1V8. *Please note that deliveries may be dropped off at the Nicola Residence entrance door.

Checking In & Out

Can I have a late check-out?
Students must check out by 11am on their day of departures. Failure to check out on time could result in additional charges or revoked access to future stays.
What's the check-out procedure?
Guests of the Commuter student Hostel will return the keys to the Student Housing and Community Services Front Desk in Nechako.
Where do I go to check in?
Guests of the Commuter student Hostel will check in at the Student Housing and Community Services Front Desk in Nechako. Guests must provide valid government photo ID and payment at check in.

You can check in with the Student Housing and Community Services Front Desk located in the Nechako Commonsblock for any lost and found that could have been left behind. Food / toiletries will not be stored. Anytime
